This 150 mm (6") modeller's rasp is hand stitched (hand cut) by skilled craftsman at B&B Artigiana, which is a small family run company near Lake Como in Italy. It is made from C100 Steel which is similar in composition to 1095 Steel. B&B Artigiana make a variety of sculpting tools for wood and stone, including rasps, rifflers, chisels, gouges, and rotary rasps.
They have the unique capability to stitch rasps with square cut teeth, although they also make rasps with pointed, triangular teeth as supplied by other rasp makers. The square cut teeth on this rasp cut faster and leave a smoother cut than rasps with the same grain density of triangular teeth, which tend to leave grooves or scratches. One side of the modeller's rasp is flat, while the other is rounded, with a radius somewhat flatter than a semi-circle. There are also teeth cut on the side of the rasp, which can be used to make narrow grooves or details.
The square cut teeth on this 6" rasp leave a very smooth surface, equivalent to a French Grain Rating of about 11 to 12, but cut somewhat faster because of the square cut teeth. They are supplied with an unfinished wooden handle and a plastic case. These have a light coating of oil - we recommend applying a light coating of oil after use.
A great value in a small, hand stitched, smooth cutting rasp. Made in Italy.
