Do you ship your products to the US or other countries?
Yes we ship tools all over the world, although our main market is Canada. Our store is now set up to offer Canada Post calculated shipping rates to international destinations, based on package weight. However Canada Post also takes the package size into account when calculating rates. Unfortunately, our shopify website does not allow us to pick package sizes for individual items, so the calculated rates are based on a padded bubble mailer size of 40cm x 30cm x 5 cm. For large orders with multiple items that require a larger bubble mailer envelope or box, the actual shipping cost may be higher than calculated. For orders of one or two tools, the calculated shipping cost is correct. In cases where the shipping costs are higher, we will send an e-mail asking for additional payment for shipping via PayPal or the option for the order to be cancelled.
Note that for international orders, our customers may owe extra duty and taxes when the shipment arrives in their country. Unfortunately orders of the larger heavier tools or multiple tools where the total weight exceeds 1 kg can be quite expensive to ship via Canada Post. Another option that some of our international customers have used is Flyta, see www.goflyta.com which can arrange shipping at rates that are sometimes much cheaper than Canada Post. You could either contact us and we can get a shipping quote from Flyta or we can give you the estimated package size and weight and you can arrange shipping with them yourself.
What currency are your prices in?
All of our prices are in Canadian Dollars.
What shipping methods do you use?
At the current time we use only Canada Post. In the future we may add other methods of shipping once we start carrying products that are too large or heavy for Canada Post, such as the JointMaker Pro. The products ship from Calgary, Alberta. For international shipments, we also use Canada Post, which offers several different choices, with and without tracking - we do offer the Canada Post International Surface Parcel and Small Packet International Surface options but don't recommend them because they have no tracking and because they can take months to arrive - we suggest instead to use the lowest cost air mail option.
See the above comments regarding www.flyta.com which is a discount shipping service for international shipments.
Do you offer local pickup in Calgary, Alberta?
Yes since we are based in Calgary, for local customers we can arrange to deliver tool orders or meet somewhere to drop off the tools to avoid shipping costs. For Canadian Customers there is a local pickup option with no shipping charge available at checkout. Or for customers that don't want to use a credit card or paypal, we can also accept cash for local pickup.
Do you carry any other products from manufacturers other than Bridge City Tool Works on your website?
Yes we now carry tools from various manufacturers. Please see out collections or catalog pages. We generally choose products and manufacturers that .provide good quality and value. We also like to support small manufacturers that we think are not/under represented in Canada.
A product I would like to purchase is out of stock, but is it possible for me to order it?
We are a small company that is trying to keep control of our inventory, so we may run out of items from time to time. Items will be restocked fairly regularly, but it is not possible to place an order for any items that are out of stock. If you are interested in purchasing a tool that is out of stock, please send us an e-mail at email@example.com and we will let you know when the tool is expected to be back in stock.
Are the tools from Bridge City Tool Works any different from those sold in the USA?
No, they are exactly the same tool designs - all BCTW tools are now manufactured in China by Harvey Industries who have now purchased BCTW USA. The tool quality is still being monitored by John Economaki who was formerly the president and tool designer at BCTW USA. These Chinese made BCT tools the same or better quality than the versions that were made in the US, but they are available for a much more reasonable price.
In addition to manufacturing the BCTW tools, Harvey Industries is a designer and manufacturer of premium woodworking tools including the GyroAir dust extractor and the T-40 Lathe - they are also distributors in China for a variety of western brands including Pfeil, Bridge City Tool Works, Robust Lathes, and Veritas Tools, so they know a lot about quality woodworking tools.
Why do some of these Bridge City Too Works tools feature a lot of parts that are made from anodized aluminum?
Anodized aluminum has a lot of advantages over brass, bronze, steel and iron for a lot of applications. It won't rust or tarnish and has a very high strength to weight ratio. In addition to corrosion resistance, the anodized layer allows the surface to be colored and also provides very good abrasion resistance.
Do these tools carry the same warranty as those sold by BCT in the US?
Yes these tools carry the same one year warranty against workmanship defects. If you find a defect in workmanship within one year of purchase, please send us an e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org for return instructions. The tool will either be repaired or replaced at no cost.
Will you be selling tools from manufacturers other than Bridge City Tool Works?
Yes in the future, when we find products that we think are useful, under distributed, high quality and offering good value, we will add them to our website. In all cases, our product descriptions indicate the country of manufacture because we think it is important that our customers know where each tool is made.
